What is EdgeSage?
EdgeSage combines two tools in one app: Steel Sage, a searchable knife-steel database with a side-by-side comparator and a guided recommendation wizard, and the Angle Coach, which reads your bevel angle live from the phone's motion sensors while you sharpen.
Do I need an account?
No. The steel database, comparator, Steel Wizard, and Angle Coach all work with no account and no network. Signing in — with Apple or a one-time email code — is optional. It unlocks cloud sync of your knives and sessions across devices, lets you submit anonymous field reports to the Steel Leaderboard, and turns on EdgeSage AI: chat, photo steel-ID, custom recipes and spoken walkthroughs.
Which sharpening systems does the Angle Coach support?
Freehand stones, plus guided systems: Wicked Edge, KME, Lansky, and Work Sharp, along with strops. Pick your setup in the app and the coach's guidance adjusts to match.
How does the Angle Coach know my angle?
It reads your phone's motion sensors. Calibrate against your stone, then rest the phone on the blade and it reports your bevel angle live in degrees per side, with haptic and voice feedback when you drift. No camera and no external hardware needed.
Is EdgeSage free?
The core app is free: the full steel database, a 2-steel comparator, the Wizard, the Angle Coach on every method, and 3 knives. Pro ($4.99/mo or $39.99/yr) lifts the free-tier limits: unlimited knives, a third comparator column and more EdgeSage AI per day. Prices in USD, billed through the App Store; plans renew automatically until cancelled.
Does it work offline?
The core app does: the steel database, comparator, Wizard, Angle Coach and your knife library all work with no connection. Sync, community reports and the AI features need a network and an account — offline, sync and reports simply wait, and the AI features show an offline state.
What is the Steel Leaderboard?
The public Steel Leaderboard ranks steels by field-felt edge retention from anonymous session reports. A steel is ranked only after 5 users have reported; below that it shows as collecting data, with no stats. One account counts as one reporter even if they log many sessions.
Where is my data stored?
On your device first. If you sign in, your knives, sessions and photos also sync to our servers so they follow you across devices; sign out and the local copy stays put, delete your account in-app and the server copy is wiped. See the Privacy Policy for details.
When is EdgeSage available, and on which platforms?
EdgeSage is currently in development for iOS — that's the platform we're shipping first. Android is planned as a fast-follow after that. This page and the app's home page will update with the App Store link the moment it's live.
How do refunds work?
Purchases are handled by the App Store. Refund requests are managed by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We're glad to help with anything else by email.
