# EdgeSage > EdgeSage is an iOS app (in development, not yet on the App Store) that pairs a deep knife-steel comparator — "Steel Sage" — with a live sharpening angle coach. Compare any two steels, get the exact grit ladder and angle for the one you're holding, then hold that angle with real-time feedback from the iPhone's motion sensors. This site (edgesage.us) is the app's marketing and legal home, plus the public Steel Leaderboard. The app is two tools built to feed each other. Steel Sage is a searchable database of knife steels with side-by-side comparison charts across five performance axes (edge retention, toughness, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, ease of sharpening), composition breakdowns, and plain-language pros and cons; a "Steel Wizard" turns four questions about how you actually use a knife into a ranked shortlist, each one tap from its sharpening recipe. The Angle Coach reads your bevel angle live from the phone's motion sensors, in degrees per side, with haptic and voice feedback when you drift — no camera overlay and no external hardware. Every session you log builds the sharpening history for that knife. The core loop is: Compare → Get the recipe → Hold your angle → Log it. The steel database and angle coach need no account and no network — they work fully offline from first launch. Your knives and sharpening history are stored locally on your device first; an optional account (Sign in with Apple or email one-time code) adds cloud sync across devices, anonymous community field reports, and EdgeSage AI (chat, photo steel ID, custom recipes, spoken walkthroughs) via a server-side proxy. The public Steel Leaderboard on this site ranks steels by field-felt edge retention from anonymous community reports. Rank scores are Bayesian-smoothed (prior weight C = 10 toward the community mean). Stats stay hidden until 5 users have reported. Boards: Overall, EDC, Hard use, Kitchen, Outdoors. The page is statically generated nightly. ## Pages - [Home](https://edgesage.us/) — features, the compare→recipe→sharpen→log loop, pricing, and a privacy summary - [Steel Leaderboard](https://edgesage.us/leaderboard.html) — public community field-data board, updated nightly - [Support](https://edgesage.us/support.html) — FAQ and contact (support@edgesage.us) - [Privacy Policy](https://edgesage.us/privacy.html) — full privacy policy (local-first data model) - [Terms of Service](https://edgesage.us/terms.html) — terms, subscriptions, disclaimers - [Sitemap](https://edgesage.us/sitemap.xml) ## Key facts - Status: in development for iPhone, iOS 17+. iOS ships first; Android is planned to follow. Not yet available on the App Store — the site will show the App Store link the moment it's live. - The steel database, comparator, Steel Wizard, and Angle Coach all work fully offline with no account. - Supported sharpening setups: freehand stones, Wicked Edge, KME, Lansky, Work Sharp, and strops — the coach adjusts its guidance to the system you pick. - Free tier: full steel database and search, 2-steel comparator, Steel Wizard and recipes, Angle Coach on every method, and 3 knives with full session history. - Pro: $4.99/month or $39.99/year (about a third off monthly). Adds unlimited knives, a 3-steel comparator and more EdgeSage AI per day. Prices in USD, billed through the App Store; plans renew automatically until cancelled. - The public Steel Leaderboard is always free to read. A steel is ranked only after 5 reporters; below that the page says "Collecting data — N of 5 reports" and shows no stats. - Privacy: local-first storage; signed-in sync, community reports and AI features are optional; no ad network; delete your account and synced data in-app anytime. The website leaderboard publishes only aggregated anonymous field reports. - Refunds are handled by Apple via reportaproblem.apple.com. - Contact: support@edgesage.us
